ABSTRACT
Child maltreatment encompasses various forms of abuse, neglect, and harm inflicted upon children by caregivers or others. In the United States, over half a million cases were reported in 2021, but many incidents likely go unreported. The impact is profound, with childhood trauma linked to obesity, chronic diseases, mental illness, and substance abuse in adulthood. Socioeconomic ramifications are vast, affecting education, employment, and involvement in criminal behavior. Interventions, such as home visitation programs and parenting education, aim to prevent maltreatment and mitigate its effects, while therapeutic approaches help heal trauma and foster resilience in affected children.
