FROM ‘MAY’ TO MAYBE’ – New link additions to this Site

Possibilities for moral practice in public health and human interpersonal behaviour are endless, to those who can endure to hope and patiently, prudently move towards the ideal – even in little steps. I have just added two new links today – (1) to the MCAI (Maternal & Child Health Advocacy International) set up by a perhaps long-forgotten ( should never be) ex-NHS Paediatric Intensivist & Child Safeguarding stalwart Dr. David Southall, whose stoic integrity and intellect I had the opportunity to be near, long ago while working in the same institution in England. (2) to the CHFG (Control of Human Factors Group) set up by Martin Bromiley – Husband, Father, & Pilot, standing stoically on the ashes of bereavement and loss. Figures such as these, came to my mind vividly when standing as serendipitous passerby & visitor to the Cambridge American Cemetery – among the gently waving quite bluebells and tall woodland grass, beside fine manicured lawns dotted with arcs of silent markers to prematurely ended lives no more, and pondering at the carved poetic quote inscription at the base of a certain memorial flagpole: ‘From failing hands we throw the torch – be yours to hold it high‘ …. the most famous bit of that poem by JohnM of Montreal – ‘In Flanders’ Fields’ – which actually has a penumbra of words even more poignant & relevant to today’s incompassionate mayhems in society, that goes:

“…Short days ago we lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow. Loved and were loved, and now we lie in Flanders’ fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe, To you from failing hands we throw the torch. Be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die, we shall not sleep, though poppies blow In Flanders Fields.” Today the foe is not really other flesh & blood like our very own too, or struggling human governances near or far, whatever our locales of ethnic origin, history, beliefs, or status – but a more subtle, deceptive & malevolent invisible one that is camouflaged behind & beyond the rousing rhetoric and rude elbowing frenzy of racy competition? A timely, sage warning is encompassed in an ancient manuscript obviously meant for Ephesus & Corinth at the time of writing, but transferable to apply today (Ref. Ephesians 6:12-15 and 2 Cor 8:11-15, whichever ideal translation one prefers). Does not everyone hold high & dear the torches (to warm & enlighten, not to burn…) the means & freedom to breathe, live safely in interdependent acts of service of some sort from cradle to grave, and at all ages in between? Please visit those two new Links items and enjoy browsing ! So do read too, those myriad scientific papers that stream through daily to ‘Blog‘ plentiful as waters of a bubbling mountain brook as they flow all around my few ‘Insights‘ Personal Blogs (category within Links page) which swim amongst them like little fishes and bread crumbs on the clear smooth pebbly stream bed – Do gather these up, and remember to muse on them on your day’s walks, so that nothing may be lost. It may help someone on the way, and refresh you too in quiet intangible reward – Contentment. Thank You. (JohnJ)
