ABSTRACT
As neurologic interventions have evolved for infants, so have ethical complexities in these complex clinical situations. We review 3 neonatal neurologic conditions and highlight ethical challenges that occur within and across these conditions. These 3 conditions include genetic conditions, intraventricular hemorrhage and posthemorrhagic ventricular dilation, and hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy. Within these 3 conditions, we discuss evolving social values about cognitive disability, prognostic uncertainty, and withdrawal of life-sustaining therapies.
