ABSTRACT
Functional seizures (FS) involve attacks resembling epilepsy-related seizures but without abnormal electric activity in the brain. The resemblance to epilepsy makes FS difficult to diagnose. In this case report, we present a 4-year-old boy suffering from FS. Elimination of seizures was reported after 4 years with 7 normal EEGs, 1 normal MRI of the cerebrum, several inefficient anticonvulsives, numerous pediatric in- and outpatient treatment, and family-based treatment. Conclusively, FS should be kept in mind as a rare cause of seizures in young children and family-based treatment may be relevant.
